Scones? Heck Yes!

Hey, can you tell I'm trying to clear out my pantry before moving day?

My Favorite Scones
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup ice cold cubed butter
1 egg
1 Tablespoon orange rind
1 cup dried tart cherries

Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
juice from the orange used for rind

Directions
First start reconstituting your dried cherries in hot water or hot tea or juice set aside.
          Preheat oven to 350
Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients together, put aside.
Cut in the butter.
In a seperate bowl combine buttermilk, egg, orange rind
and gradually mix into the flour mixture until just moistened.
Drain soaking cherries and and add them to the dough
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and quick- knead dough and  pat dough into a 3/4 inch thick round.
(Like a pie) Cut into 12 wedges, and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown on the bottom.
Glaze
*Its good to glaze while still warm. The glaze will cover more surface area and
have a pretty glossy sheen when they cool.
Mix the powered sugar and orange juice until you get the consistency you like
(I'm looking for the thickness of Elmer's school glue.)
Drizzle this on your warm scones, brew up some coffee, and enjoy!
